My first positive educational experience in college, was Art Appreciation by the lovely Professor Luna ( later my photography professor). She taught me that we are not capable of disliking art or negative judge a piece, because we have to ask ourselves if I would like someone to criticize my expression regarding something. I try to follow this, even when I have encounter pieces with questionable aesthetics and underdeveloped technique. Being raised by a single mom with a liberal arts major and a progressive approach to the arts, had made me conscious about the progress art makes no matter our human evolution status. I always try my best to support the up and coming artists and I'm open to see the new stuff.
Boing Boing feature an amazing painter called Justine Lai. She made the racy move to paint herself with past American presidents in a collective called Join or Die. Some may cringe, due to the fact that she is in sexual positions with dead P.O.T.U.S's, but in my humble opinion I think it's very edgy to put herself in such vulnerable position for the name of art.
Check it out and open yourself to NOT judge art, we are fortunate enough to just admire and respect the artist expression
