My affair with Andre

I've been spending my nights in bed with Andre Agassi. Sometimes Carmela joins us. I'm enjoying every second of his autobiography, Open. Being loosely connected to tennis ( yes, the understatement of the day), this confirms what I actually know about the development and life of a professional tennis player. And man, it's tough

I remember Agassi as a kid, his mullet and fashion choices. The epitome of what was wrong in fashion in the 80's. To my surprise, while reading, I have discovered a gentle, kindred, tortured soul. For those who have no idea what to give to the sports nut, don't hesitate and give this jewel of a book.

Happy Holidays!

Where have I been?

It's been a while since I wrote here. I did a little bit of baby steps early in the week just to get myself used to it. I haven't been myself lately. Chaos is unraveling in my little island. Uncertainty and injustice rules the day and I can't help to feel sad.

Apart from my personal situations, I have to say that I'm grateful. I have a job, that sometimes I complain, I have health, which I take for granted, and I have an amazing family (both real and by choice).
I went to NYC and back and had an amazing time. There is some special kind of love for me there. I laughed, I ate, got kissed (it was sweet) and watch some tennis and the September Issue.

After that, I have pretty much stayed home.I have enjoyed the quiet nights with Carmela, the laughter of my Mia and the silent complicity of my sister while watching a chick flick (poor figu!).I have been spoiled by the Guy Upstairs when I complained that I was missing some makeup essentials (another post).

Now I'm preparing myself to help Jennifer get married for good ( bachelorette than turned into a wedding-you got to love her). I'm happy because she is happy.

October promises to be hectic, but I'm ready.

Art+Sports

Sample of some the 2012 Olympics posters representing various. Can you take a guess which one is my favorite?

PS-It's not tennis! It's fencing, my mom's sports

Welcome to the dark side

Puertorrican women are a strange breed: most of manage to look well when broke, drive aggressively and most important appreciate boxing. We get giddy when we prepare munchies and make plans to go to someones house to go and see the fight.
Saturday was one of those nights, when Puerto Rico is silent, anxiously waiting to see one of our own, Miguel Cotto, go up in a ring. After a devastating fight to Margarito, Cotto came back with a darker persona, in black trousers ( he used to wear all white and using the slogan the angel has risen), freshly tattooed but most important fearless. We breathed in relieved when on the fifth round Cotto KO' a glorified sparring partner which name I can't remember. Our old boy was back and with thirst of blood.

I met Cotto in Buenos Aires a couple of years back. I was impressed by his quiet, stoic demeanor very common characteristics of military upbringing common in his household. I love his calmness before the ring and that he tries to speak English even when is broken.

Boxing is an excuse for to warm houses and to chill a little bit of our hectic lives. We will continue to embed this tradition into future generations even when some believe boxing is a morbid excuse to see someone shed blood. Nothing beats Mia chanting: Co-tto, Co-tto,Co-tto

Carla beats Venus 2-6, 6-3, 7-5

I haven't blogged anything from the Australian Open. I haven't heard much, but I know a Carla, who speaks Spanish, beat Venus ( one of my favorites) 2-6, 6-3, 7-5
