Skinny by eating

I love Bethenny Frankel. I think she is rad and would totally be her best friend in a beat. So since bikini season is here some tips from her on being skinny by eating. Enjoy!

1. Your Diet Is a Bank Account. "Eating should be treated like a bank account - if one day you decide that you want to have chocolate cake for breakfast, you can, because there's no 'No,' but you need to account for it. If you spend in one place, you need to save in another."
2. The Differential. "In the differential, you can have turkey chili and meat chili. To me, the differential between the two isn't that big. I would just as soon have turkey chili as I would meat chili. But there's a huge differential for me between a piece of plain grilled chicken breast and a fatty piece of New York steak. Go for it when the differential is really great to you."
3. The Point of Diminishing Return. "For example, if you order fried calamari, you taste it, it's delicious, have another bite, dip it in the sauce, it's delicious, but then there's a point where it's as good as it's ever going to get. And that's when you stop."
4. Downsize. "We have unrealistic portions in this country and you can order an appetizer as your main course. No matter if you're eating broccoli or fried chicken - it's good to get into the habit of leaving a little."

Weekend recap

So I had a very entertaining weekend. Friday started with Geo, Jaen and Carlos I in Jose Enrique with the best grapefruit vodkas the Placita could offer. To my surprise (it has happened twice) I bumped into my sister Tania with the best brother in law in the world Georgie, my fitness guru Patty and the always hilarious Stephanie with people from their workplace. Later we moved into Piropo where my friend Cagiu pitched Georgie an arranged marriage between his son and Mia ( under serious consideration;kid is gorgeous). Then I kicked into responsible big sister gear and went to San Sebastian to pick up Rebeca and Christian. I have to say, her pickup went smooth ( thank God!).

I spend Saturday in bed cuddling with Carmela ( rain helped) and made plans Joel for a night out. After a nice tapas dinner with Joel ( thanks again, babe), Anushka and friends, we headed to Pa'l Cielo for some nice 80's vintage pop music. Hanging with Joel always involves laughter, jokes and some nice people watching comments. Anushka is always sweet and fun, but we need to compliment her for the most original lighter in history, an Agatha Ruiz de la Prada fish.

Sunday was a great day to open the beach office with Geo and we headed there for some "hard work", a ceviche lunch followed ( sorry J!). We made plans to go see Doubt in Fine Arts Cafe. By coincidence, we met Joel,Anushka,Edwin and Carlos Osvaldo. There was no seat left except first row, that we dubbed "first class" in order for us to believe that even at the movies, we are still VIP (didn't work). Movie was great and intense. As always Meryl Streep always delivers, she being the first lady of acting ( in my humble opinion, Cate Blanchett comes in close second).

So this week, posses hard work at the office and workouts ( my knee will behave, my knee will behave,my knee will behave). Very excited for Obama's presidential pledge and the ceased fire truce in Gaza.

So now I'll leave you with some words from Ashton Kutcher's blog on The Huffington Post about the Presidential Pledge: "We have gathered a group of individuals who share the courage to pledge to our president, and the world at large, what it is that they are willing to do, give, or sacrifice, in an effort to help their fellow man. Our hope is that this effort will inspire others to do the same, with individuals posting their initiatives within their communities. This is not a selfless utopian action. In fact it is a very selfish one. By improving the lives of those who surround us we will in effect improve our own.

Boy's names and #2

This is a very past due post and part of my reasons to be grateful series

One of my other bf's, K came to PR for some R&R. You see K is pregnant with her second child and she makes the biggest pregnancies that I have seen. K and I go back since college days. At first, I didn't like her at all. Nothing like a beach day, broken hearts and Mexican food to seal our friendship forever. Even in the distance, she lives in Houston with her husband and daughter, we always had manage to keep up our friendship alive and kicking. I had the privilege to be her maid of honor at her wedding and her I feel her family is my family ( yep, I'm that territorial).

Back to the pregnancy. It is almost 90% that is a boy. I find this very unnerving because I keep thinking about the little peepee growing inside of K. So in true sisterhood spirit, we spend most of our Monday night searching for unique names ( the Monteagudo-Perez family collectively have unusual names). We went through Portuguese, Hebrew, Arabic, French and more list of names finding options for this unborn baby. We went through a lot of names, but my favorite is Luka.

Day after, after a sunny day at the beach, we decided to go to a place K went before,#2 kiosk ( called La Parrilla) in Luquillo for some chow time. I'm kind of weary of this places due to the excessive amount of stuff fried in pork lard, but let me tell you this is another level. The best pizza turnover EVER!!!!. I have to say this is not your usual, Luquillo kiosk, this is a restaurant.

So, as I was sitting there looking at my dear friend and her daughter, with some regueaton in the background, I found myself feeling ( once again ) grateful for the friendships that I have been fortunate to have. And even if we are miles away, K and I always come together for some soul sister time...

Weekend recap

At last a sunny weekend in PR , after many rain episodes and a dumb hurricane warnings, the blonde one appeared for a sunny Sunday at Ocean. But let's start from the beginning. Friday was great @ Jose Enrique. Went out with K' cousin and his friend from Venezuela. After an amazing dinner, we went to La Concha and to my surprise saw George... as in George Clooney. Small in stature, mustache gives him a 70's style flair. Still it was yummy. On Saturday, duty called. Mini Tennis in the morning, meeting in the afternoon and babysitting in the evening. Sunday was the perfect beach day. Went alone but after ten minutes, partners in crime Lorna and Cynthia joined me for nice afternoon at the beach. We ended in Tijuana's ( elda joined us as well). Weekend ended w an ice cream date at Ben & Jerry's...(insert smile emoticon here)
