Working out @ home-an insanity case

Looking for cheap and challenging fitness alternatives, I decided to try P90x. A friend lend me a a copy and after seeing amazing results from three friends, I vowed to do it until I achieved my goal: a skinny bitch. On Monday, I tried the wrong one episode for my program (I'm on the lean program) and had to stop after 30 minutes. This stuff is hard!

Yesterday, I went again with the right episode hoping it was easier.I did the core and let me tell you it was as hard as the one on Monday. Quick fact about me: I have never been an upper strength person. To me a push ups or planks are hell. So, can you guess what is the main core workout position is? you guess it: push ups and planks with variations!!!.

I'm doing this is my room, since I'm decluttering my guest room for future projects, and Carmela is not happy. She thinks her mom got mad doing all this insane poses. She barks, runs to the kitchen and back, cries, runs back to the kitchen. Looking her reaction, I must look pretty funny doing all this weird stuff.

All in the name of looking good for the big 3-2

Turning my Monday around

It started with my outfit. The jacket that I have ironed the night before still looked crumbly. I had the worst Monday in months that included a heavy dose of anxiety binge*, ineptitude, lack of professionalism and to top it all off, a nice tension headache. I was mad and frustrated. But on my way home, my day started to get better. After words of encouragement from mom, I get home and voila!: in my mailbox had two new DVD's from Netflix ( I'm on the free trial version) and my new used copy of Booky wook by British hottie, Russell Brand that I bought on a super sale on Amazon. After all that day binge, I was still hungry so I decided to splurge: white rice, white stewed beans, tomato and onion salad and panko breaded tilapia. I went to pick my sis from work and a nice dose of Mia love made it all better. The cherry on the top: I finished The Reader with Kate Winslet and some Carmela cuddling. So how did my Tuesday started? I lost a pound!

~Have a great day!

My 25 random things

I posted this on facebook, so why not here. Enjoy!

I sleep with my first pillow. Yes, it’s 31 years old. It’s gross and have rescued it twice from the trash ( mom tried to convince me that the pillow was the source of my nonexistent teenage acne-now, I think is the source of my anti aging regime)

I had mono at 3 years old. I French kissed everyone in pre-pre kinder and spread it to the whole class and Tania, my younger sister

I can’t sing save my life, I can’t draw and after running a quarter mile I’m breathless. Now give me high heels (the taller the better), champagne plus a good DJ and I will give you the endurance performance of a lifetime.

I have my mom’s body and my dad’s features. People say I look like my Mom and some people say my Dad. But what people don’t know is that my parents look alike. Freaky. I’m the only one of my three sisters that has brown eyes (although Tania, bless her heart, swears they are still beautiful).

My alter ego is a 16 inch waist burlesque stripper and performs in Forty Deuce with Dita Von Teese ( google her she is amazing)

My guilty pleasure is napping. Since I was little, Morpheus was on my side, rocking my cradle

I have the worst case of organizing procrastination. I love organized stuff. To me, Martha Steward is a semi good and but I wish I had the energy to organize ( Tania, my sister, can vouch for that-she divided our shared room many times with masking tape)

Contrary to popular belief, I don’t have a big J-lo style butt. I have HUGE hips which is totally different.

I had always wanted to have a scuba license, play a high level competitive tennis (I know) and speak French fluently. Somehow, procrastinating, socializing and nightlife keep getting in the way.

I’m an information junkie. News and useless info are my favorite vice (but it helps on trivia games and small talk-did you know that people photocopying their buttocks are the cause of 23% of all photocopier faults worldwide?; did you know that Prince Charles and Prince William never travel on the same airplane in case there is a crash?; did you know that the Pentagon in Arlington Virginia has twice as many bathrooms as is necessary.? When it was built in the 1940s the state of Virginia still had segregation laws requiring separate toilet facilities for blacks and whites)

I loathe spelling errors, not typos. I tend to judge people I have never met by email spelling horrors.

My friends use me as a memory storekeeper to remember who they dated and in which year

When my parents divorced they took my sister and me to a psychiatrist. His findings said that we were 10 years ahead on maturity level than the average kid. For some reason I find this totally untrue due to my choices in men.

I find appetizers more fun and happy than entrees. But I eat like a trucker so normally I eat both plus bread and dessert.

I find reality TV my heroin and Bravo is my dealer. My other fix is Rock of Love, nothing like white trash with amazing pole dancing skills and a washout rock star to make me feel special and hugged by Jesus.

My choices for professions as a kid were: butcher( I loved the smell of blood), fashion designer, forensic doctor, OB/GYN, and chef

My tween years were marked by: Menuditis, brownie production with Girls Just Wanna Have Fun previews at Mitin’s house, and window shopping at Camp Beverly Hills and Trafico @ Plaza Las Americas

I was born on July 1st, 1977, which means my birthday is the biggest holiday in Canada. I share my birthday with Pamela Anderson and Princess Diana (RIP). Can you see the similarities? Because I can

My first soft drink memory: Materva, a golden brown soda. It smells much like a champagne cola. Having a Cuban great uncle as a neighbor has its benefits.( that is were my love for Cubans started)

I live by Corretjer’s words: A human to be complete needs to plant a tree (I take very good care of my cow tongue’s plant), have a child (Carmela in the meantime) and write a book (does blogging count?)

I rather talk about sex than bowel movements, which is something puertorricans do while eating.

Geo, Jennifer and the whole office staff say I talk to loud. I swear I’m talking in a nice soothing range.

I can portray myself as loud with a strong character. In reality I suffer from delayed reaction which sucks at the time to engage in an intense discussion/opinion differences/fights. I’m a closeted softie and normally will freeze if somebody verbally attacks me ( it happened once and recently and was very affected by it)

I can’t believe the amount of selfish love I get from my 15 lbs daschund and I swear that she will talk any day now. I gravitate towards my two year old niece, Mia Sofia and will change my day’s routine to be near her and watch her laugh.

I’m proud to wear my heart on my sleeve and will try that everyday that passes by I will tell my love ones how much I love them. Everyday I thank God for the good, the bad and the ugly. I learn from my drama to appreciate my blessings.

Dog lovin'

For the past four and half years I have been cultivating one of my most important relationships of my life: my dachshund Carmela. The residual of a broken love got me the most pure, happy, unselfish one. At the beginning it was hard getting to have a dog in an apartment. She was so needy, I used to run and hide just to get out of my house. Long minutes of crying from her part made me feel like the worst mother. During the early years the amount of money due to her obsession of swallowing stuff was insane. Prescription medicines, earrings, paper, used cotton pads, are a few of her conquest. A MAJOR scare for her, mom and me taught her a lesson ( some a-hole set up a trap of tres pasitos, an illegal venom used to poison cats, dogs and a occasional drug user with huge debts). I was away working and spend my way back praying and crying for my cuculita ( my nickname for her). I cried some more when I saw the vet's tab but she was worth that and more. Having a dog, a dog who is as lovely as Carmela, has made me a better person. I rush home to walk her ( thanks to my friends who honk their horns on our famous walks in San Patricio). I have become more aware on animal rights issues and the importance of birth control, vaccination, puppy mills and I applaud the judicial system for stiff sentences to animal abusers ( take that motherf***ers!!!) .

We have become a family unit.We even share the bed, which in my talks with weiner dog owners is very common. And even if I loose my patience with her ( she picked my living room as her weewee pad spot-not nice, not nice at all) she knows my moods and accepts them. She licks my wounds and tears, she scratches my arms in rough play, she naps with me and defends me from TV dogs. Her intense barks can be heard miles away making people believe she's a pitbull. She's feisty and antisocial with other dogs, but the gentlest with children ( Mia and her: another story ) and caring with strangers who greet her in our famous walks.I have learned that this person ( she will talk any day now) comes with major responsabilities and feel proud when people acknowledge that I'm a good dog owner.

I know that when I get home, I have some love waiting and I'm not afraid of solitude because I'm not alone, I'm with her. My daughter dog.And even if I find it hard to some babysitting when I'm away ( yes, Mom I'm looking at you,) I know that when I get home I will be received with the purest form of love: dog love.

Writer's note: Carmela was with me while typing this post

fire, fire and then... a pot lab?

Funny, but scary thing happened today. So I was working on my sponsor proposals for 09, when all of the sudden, Chetzil my friend and neighbor calls me up and says: " the condo is on fire!-on the 25th floor!!!!". So first thought was: CARMELA!!!. Grab my purse and fled through the door. Called Grandma ( she is a neighbor) and nothing. Called Grandpa ( also a neighbor-long story for another entry)and nothing. I started to get worried since fire goes up and Grandpa lives on the 26th. Called Mom to see if she knew something, she didn't.

So I get to the condo, I see Chet and the old people. Different smell of smoke...smells like pot? I tell Chet and he confirmed that apparently, an A/C blew up and when firefighters came in... a pot lab! for reals!!!!

So after I finally was allowed to get to my apt and check Carmela.Curiosity came in, I wanna see the pot lab!!! So after picking Chet on the 24 we went to check the "scene of the crime". So we went just to take a peek and we found the nice gentlemen of the DEA. They told us a pot lab was build up in the apt ( it was a rental) with 33 5 feet pot plants. Of course, I called the grandparents and for the first time in the 75+ years they saw pot...See the attached pics I took w my phone

My two loves

So last night I went food shopping with my sister and one of the loves of my life, Mia Sofia. After an intense session through the produce, deli and dairy aisles, the highlight of my day came. Mia screamed at the top of her lungs, "mama, ca-ca-ca-ca-ca-cado!!!" ( ca-ca-ca-ca-ca-do is mantecado-ice cream). People near us couldn't stop laughing at her excitment and her wit. After we thought, we had faced the rain...and the production to get to the car began.

My first love was the residual of a long time love, whom shall remain nameless ( we are still good friends, though). Her name is Carmela and we share everything including the bed. People who own weiner dogs faced the same dilema, weiners LOVE to cuddle ( the other quality which is a bad combination is that they are possesive). Major problem when I have company. Tania, my sister says that is the major p%$^ block in my life. Ever. Although I agree, at some degree, I have faith that my future suitor will love me +my 1/2.
