My new hero-Jane Aldridge

Meet my new hero, 17-year-old fashion blogger Jane Aldridge of Sea of Shoes has a deal to sell her own shoes at Urban Outfitters. Three styles will be in stores next month, and three more will debut in December. Keep in mind that this girl just graduated high school and had to wear her traditional Catholic girl uniform ( with a regulatory 1.5 heel). Impecable style and taste for a teen.

Right now she is Tokyo with her cool mom

Why me being single is YOUR problem, not mine.

Recently my social status has been the source of unsolicited advice and messages of hope. Apparently me being single is a state that concerns people (not you, Mom) and a status that I obtained because apparently “there is something wrong here” WTF!!!!!!
I think that is the most unrespectful thing you can do to me. First, being single is not bad, not bad at all. I get to hang with amazing people, meet new friends and go to every place I get invited. I can get to the beach in 12 minutes flat without feeling guilty that I left someone behind*. Do I want a partner? Of course I do, but in the process I won’t stop living my life and become a spinster.

The worst part of my singlehood is the advice that I didn’t ask for. Keep in mind that your opinion and advice for me to tame my individuality is the most horrific and insulting you can do to a human being. Tolerance is a virtue that we all need to work, but if a potential mate can’t handle that I may have a strong opinion on a world affair or a pair of socks, most likely he cant handle the whole package that includes a very opinionated dachshund and a genius niece.

Am I hopeful? Yes, very. In fact I have faith that I’ll find a mate for life. I have to say I’m realistic on what I’m looking for. I don’t want perfection, because I’m not perfect. Do I have high standards? I don’t think so, I’m just realistic. If you ask me what you would want, I have an answer: someone with a strong work ethic, good hygiene, a sense on current events and the ability to laugh easily (dark, tall and handsome dancer won’t hurt either). Do I think I’m a good catch? Yes. I always tell people I’m single not because of lack of virtues, but lack of suitors. We just haven’t met.

There are people in my world in marriages and relationships that are just plain miserable, even in relationships, which is heartbreaking. I just have to look around just get grateful. I’m single, yes and but not for long. The amount of love and the support system that I have won’t let me fall and won’t like me being with someone just because.

So, please while I appreciated your concern about my life without a partner, please just keep my potential mate in your nightly prayers and keep your mouth shut. In the end, like it or not I’m just Carla. Either love it or take the high road. Do the singles a favor and treat them with respect, because most likely we are NOT the source of problem of our social status.

*I’m willing to compromise and wait-you see I’m not THAT bad

The road to more hotness

I haven't post in the past couple of days and frankly I've been too tired to read much of my rss feed (get a subscription, it will save your life-mine is from google). Work has been hell and the lifestyle changes of trying to enhance my eating habits and exercise regime has keep me on my toes. This plan of getting my body hot for my b-day is really exhausting. Tania, my wise sister, tells me 'you know it takes a while to get to where you are right now'. And its true. Ive been guilty of neglecting myself.
We expect to lose 5 pounds the first day of dieting. We swallow magic pills to accelerate the process, but in the end the body just needs two things: moderate what you eat (yes, we CAN eat everything) and move the a**. And even if I have to snap at obnoxious teenagers who tries to steal my spot in Zumba class, I know for a fact that I have more fun and have more style while they struggle miserably in a simple dance routine. All this hard work is a totally selfish act ( well validation from women-not men- helps too*), even if I'm not even going out. I'm getting hooked on endorphins and healthy food and guess what I'm liking it.

*Don't act surprised- if you live in Puerto Rico and hang in the nice places, we could care less about what men like- we dress for the women and gays and you know it

Turning my Monday around

It started with my outfit. The jacket that I have ironed the night before still looked crumbly. I had the worst Monday in months that included a heavy dose of anxiety binge*, ineptitude, lack of professionalism and to top it all off, a nice tension headache. I was mad and frustrated. But on my way home, my day started to get better. After words of encouragement from mom, I get home and voila!: in my mailbox had two new DVD's from Netflix ( I'm on the free trial version) and my new used copy of Booky wook by British hottie, Russell Brand that I bought on a super sale on Amazon. After all that day binge, I was still hungry so I decided to splurge: white rice, white stewed beans, tomato and onion salad and panko breaded tilapia. I went to pick my sis from work and a nice dose of Mia love made it all better. The cherry on the top: I finished The Reader with Kate Winslet and some Carmela cuddling. So how did my Tuesday started? I lost a pound!

~Have a great day!

*(damned that vending machine!-one bag of Fritos, one bag of peanut M&M's and one bag of vanilla wafers),

ok, Batwoman is gay.....

All this time, I thought Batman and Robin had a "special" friendship, like a gay relationship. Hello, the butler, the tights, the age difference... it all pointed out like a healthy partnership in both crime fighting and in the bedroom. It turns out, Batwoman was the one hiding in the closet with the bats. DC Comics revealed that a 12 issue series will revealed that Batwoman is openly gay and who knows maybe fighting Prop 8.Not that there is nothing wrong being gay, unless it's Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine... now that's heartbreak for me.

Words to live by

For the past few years I have been a fan on an amazing blog called Apartment Therapy, Maxwell its founder have given great advise to people on living on simple but meaningful lives. So I share w you his words on a daily newsletter he sent yesterday.

"While the daily financial news couldn't be more dramatic
(is someone writing this stuff?), and here in NYC there is a palpable sense of disbelief in the air, I have no doubt that the fall out from this crisis will touch every one of us in some way. But, unlike many, I think this may be a good thing.I believe that we're being handed a tremendous opportunity to refocus and rise to a new challenge, for as horrified as folks may be, there is no one in the financial business that I know who is surprised. These problems have been coming down the road for a while now and, if nothing else, it's a clear signal that it's time to change our style. At AT, we've long believed in the value and
gratification of getting your house in order, living with quality (versus
quantity) and creating a home that supports you in all of your roles:
professional, personal, spiritual. Now, then, is the time to slow down, work off debt, de-clutter, simplify and pare down to those things that are most important. It's a time to focus on happiness and spend more time at home. It's a time to buy flowers and to start cooking again. If you remember, we went through something much more devastating not long ago in 2001, and people's response to that crisis here in the city was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen in my life."

PS-that is NOT my room
